1967 Jack Kirby Spider-Man That Looks Great!

I found a picture of Spider-man done by Jack Kirby that looks much better than the ones I usually see online.  Love the eerie-ness of the mask.
I'm sure the Kirby Collector has highlighted this at some point, but since I just saw it, it's new to me!

R.I.P. MARVEL COMICS AS WE KNEW YE...

Well, I guess everyone now knows that the Marvel most of us knew is coming to an end.  Just like Crisis on Infinite Earths before it and DC's current (not a) reboot option, Marvel is ridding itself of many years of history baggage and cherry-picking the best for the next cycle.  Didn't they do that once and call it an Ultimate universe?  Not as ultimate as once thought I guess.  But that universe is being cherry-picked too and will end at the same time.
I once owned the poster represented here (sans 'R.I.P.) and it adorned my walls until it could no longer hold itself together.  Maybe that's what's going on with Marvel.  Just can't hold itself together any more.

Your friend and mine, the great Michael Rooker played Yondu in the Marvel Movie Guardians of the Galaxy.

It has been noted that Michael was a comic book reader before the part came up and was aware of Yondu.  He also (as I'm sure nobody is aware of) played Daryl's older brother in 'The Walking Dead' which is also based on a comic book.  His character was not in the comic, however.

If you have Netflix, you can currently view a movie Michael did in 1985 but wasn't released until 1990 called "Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer".  It is a very disturbing, deeply moving take on parental cause-and-effect.

What does this have to do with the circular nature of comics and movies?

In a scene where Rooker's co-star has just kicked in his TV set for not working properly, there is a closer view of the top of the Television:

Hey!  What's that on top of the TV?

A comic book!

Close examination reveals it is a copy of Daredevil #217, from April 1985.

It has a great Barry Windsor-Smith cover and in my opinion:

Michael Rooker put it there!

He's a fan of comics and may have suggested it.

Minor point, of course but I always like to track down the comics I see in old movies.

Now if we could only forget about his role in Days of Thunder, life would be great!

SOMETIMES THE IN-JOKES ARE SO LAME THAT REALLY ARE FUNNY!
Since the time Stan the Man left Marvel, they have tried very hard to maintain (or recapture) the warm, fuzzy feeling that the small bullpen used to have. Assistant Editor's Month springs to mind.
It was fun then, now it just seems self-serving. These fellows who grew up reading comics and not so much other forms of literature are now finding themselves with jobs at the company they grew up with.
Not a good thing.
This piece is so idiotic it really becomes humorous. Photoshop has been around awhile guys, get over it.
I can't imagine how funny it might be if more people actually knew who this guy is!
